ECIP Program May Help With Winter Heating Bills

MEMPHIS Area residents may be eligible for assistance with their heating bills this winter due to programs available through the Northeast Missouri Community Action Agency (NMCAA). In anticipation of a harsh winter and increased heating costs, federal guidelines were changed in November, allowing more households to qualify for assistance with heating bills.

The Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP), a component of the Low Income Housing Energy Assistance Program, provides financial assistance to households whose utility services are off or in threat of being disconnected.

Funding is subject to eligibility requirements, and qualified residents can receive up to $800, based on available funds.

A similar program is also available for assistance during summer months.

For more information contact the Scotland County NMCAA office at 660-465-8558 or 660-465-2514. Information about the Energy Crisis Intervention Program, as well as guidelines for saving energy, is available at all Northeast Missouri Community Action Agency Offices.

NMCAA is a private not-for-profit organization designed to assist in moving people out of poverty. It operates in Adair, Clark, Knox, Schuyler and Scotland counties, overseeing programs such as weatherization and Head Start.
