Youth Association Receives $1,500 Grant

Representatives of the York Children’s Foundation of Pittsburg, PA, were in Memphis on February 16th to present a $1,500 grant check to the Scotland County Youth Association. The presentation was made at the Payne Funeral Chapel. Ron Tinkle of Payne Funeral Chapel has nominated the local youth group for the program.

The York Children’s Foundation was created in 1992as a joint project of The York Group of Houston, TX, and the York Distributors Association. Each time a York casket is sold, and the funeral director returns a registration card, York and the distributor who sold the casket match donations to the foundation. Funeral directors across the country nominate organizations that spend at least 50% of their time and resources helping children in their communities. Each quarter, a Board of Trustees made up of funeral directors and distributors select the most worthy nominees to receive the grants.

Since 1992, the York Children’s Foundation has donated over $2.5 million in grants to more than 800 organizations across the United States. Artco Casket Company, Inc., of Lenexa, KS, is the York Distributor who co-sponsored the Memphis nomination. The sales representatives of Artco Casket Company has assisted their customers in obtaining more than $500,000 in donations for organizations in the Midwest over the past 13 years.

In June of 2008 Payne Funeral Chapel put in a Y.M.S. (York Merchandising System) Room.

“It is a much more soothing room for selecting merchandise that the families appreciate as they don’t have to look at the full selections,” Tinkle said. “ It has everything associated with a funeral or memorial ceremony in one immediate location. You are able to compare colors and differences in the selections that are more numerable in both metal and wood. Everything is priced so you know you are staying in the price range you want.”
