SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE... All SCR-I Entries in District Band, Choir Show Receive One Rankings

Scotland County R-I band and choir students recently participated in the district music festivals in Hannibal and Kirksville, MO. On Saturday, March 28 band members traveled to Hannibal, MO to participate in the large group band contest. The group received a III (three) rating.

The following Saturday, April 4th, 11 band and choir members traveled to Kirksville, MO to participate in contest for solos and ensembles. In a unique occurrence, ALL eleven students were awarded I (one), SUPERIOR, ratings on one or more entries and will travel to State Music Contest in Columbia, MO on Friday, May 1.

Ensembles were as follows: a brass trio of Jordan Fulk, Drew Miller, and Shelby Westhoff received a one rating; woodwind trio of Yvette Miller, Delaney Gundy, and Anna Hirner received a one rating; flute trio of Kylee Sears, Augusta Purvis, and Stepanie Yarbrough received a one rating.

Soloists included a vocal solo by Melissa Cotton receiving a one rating, vocal solo by Yvette Miller receiving a II (two) rating, bass clarinet solo by Scott Johnson receiving a one rating and a baritone solo by Shelby Westhoff receiving a one rating.

All students were under the direction of high school band and choir director Jamie Hicks and accompanied at the piano by Angela Westhoff.

Family, friends, and members of the community are encouraged to come see and hear all these performers on Thursday, April 23 at the “SCAMP Evening of Music”. The program will begin at 7 p.m. in the Scotland County High School gym. Other performers throughout the evening will include elementary choirs and classes under the direction of Lori Fulk.

Following the program light snacks will be served to guests. The event is being hosted by the Scotland County Association of Music Parents.
