Bridge on Route H in Scotland County Reopens
HANNIBAL - On Tuesday, June 30, MoDOT opened the South Wyaconda River Bridge on Route H north of Arbela in Scotland County. The bridge closed for rehabilitation on May 26, and it is the first bridge in Scotland County repaired under MoDOT’s innovative Safe and Sound Bridge Program.
The Safe and Sound Bridge program will repair or replace 802 bridges throughout the state, beginning in 2009. Information about the Safe and Sound bridge program can be found at modot.org.
The deck on the bridge was replaced and widened, which allows it to be a two-lane bridge with no load restrictions.
“The bridge is now 24 feet wide accommodating ten-foot lanes and two-foot shoulders,” explained Jerad Noland, resident engineer with MoDOT.
Boone Construction Company of Columbia was the contractor on this project. MoDOT and its contractor expressed their appreciation to area residents and motorists for their patience while the road was closed.
All roadwork is posted on the traveler information map a week in advance or on the day it begins. Those traveling and the commuting public are encouraged to check the online map at modot.org daily for new work zones. Drivers are also invited to rate MoDOT work zones online at modot.org. MoDOT also offers e-update messages sent directly to your email when roadwork is scheduled. Sign up online or call MoDOT’s customer service.
