Mark Twain Chorale to Host Local Concert
The Mark Twain Chorale International is preparing for its seventh international tour and will be performing July 12 at 2:00 p.m. at the Memphis Theatre in Memphis, Missouri. The concert is free and open to the public, and all music lovers are encouraged to attend.
The Chorale is made up of 25 singers from Memphis, Kahoka, Edina, Ewing, Columbia, Montgomery City, Jefferson City and St. Charles in Missouri. The group performs primarily American music including early American hymn tune arrangements, spirituals, gospel, jazz and show tune arrangements as well as traditional choral arrangements. The group is under the musical direction of Dr. Dan O’Donnell and accompanists Dennis and Linda Richardson of Montgomery City.
The MTCI will be performing six concerts in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary. The highlight of this tour will be a performance at the Zvolen Summer Arts Festival and a final concert at the Saint Anna Church in Budapest which was built in the mid 1700’s. The group will also tour Bratislava and Zvolen and perform locally in those areas.
Local singers from Memphis include Sheila Berkowitz, Teresa Cotton, Tom Cotton, Dr. Harlo Donelson, Jeff Dyer, Lynette Dyer, Joan Hinds, and Anna Lynn Kirkpatrick. Singers from Kahoka include Wayne Blum, Chuck Braxton, Jeri Braxton, Gloria Macomber, Carol Trump, and Tessa Wilson. Singers from Knox County include Lisa Blake and Jo Anne Layman; and David and Charlotte Parrish from Ewing.
Other members of the chorale are Dale Findlay (Jefferson City), Lila Hilgeford (Columbia), Gene Knight (St. Charles), and Sharon O’Donnell (St. Charles).
Tiffany Trump-Humbert and Rolf Humbert of Trump Travel in Bentonville, Arkansas are organizing the 2009 tour. MTCI’s previous tours included Vienna, Austria in 1997, Salzburg, Austria in 1999, Italy in 2001, Ireland in 2003, Germany and Switzerland in 2005, and Normandy, France, Belgium and the Netherlands in 2007.
