Memphis to Host Economic Development Workshop

Memphis will be the site of an economic development workshop courtesy of the University Extension and a number of area sponsors. The Northeast Missouri Regional Planning Commission will host the program on Monday, July 20 with two sessions being offered.

The program will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and repeated again from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

“This workshop presents a brief overview of the economic development process focusing on some of the key considerations for local economic development,” said David Hill, MU Extension Community Development Specialist.

The agenda includes definitions, principals and strategies of economic development as well as planning and funding local programs to implement economic growth in communities. Speakers will include Mike Chell, CecD Business Development Executive for Ameren UE and Gordon Ipson, CecD, FM, Manager of Economic Development for Northeast Missouri Electric Power Cooperative.

Based on the day-long Fundamentals of Economic Development which covers the core concepts included in training courses attended by professional economic developers from across the country, this workshop is designed as a brief introduction to some of the key foundation concepts of economic development.

Participants will learn about the fundamental concepts of economic development and where to go for assistance.

The meeting is targeting city, county and state elected officials and community volunteers in northeast Missouri. There is no registration fee, but you must pre-register no later than July 17th with Kathie Small at the Northeast MO Regional Planning Commission office at 326 East Jefferson Street in Memphis, MO.
