Weather Hampers Rescue Efforts for Injured Hunter
Flash flooding and related wet weather hampered emergency response efforts, but a St. Louis area hunter was safely rescued from a remote area near Bible Grove after suffering injuries that left him immobilized Thursday afternoon.
According to the Scotland County Sheriff’s Department, Troy Delaney, 45, of St. Paul, MO, was injured while trying to cross a fence. The dispatcher was notified of the accident at 5:10 p.m. and first responders, law enforcement and the Scotland County Ambulance Service were dispatched to the scene.
Wet conditions made the roughly one-mile extrication from the site particularly hazardous. A number of first responders, EMS personnel and neighboring landowners, assisted with the extrication from the wooded area off of Route T, on private property adjacent to the Indian Hills Conservation Area.
EMS personnel were on the scene for approximately two-hours before the injured hunter was transported to Scotland County Memorial Hospital. Delaney was then transported to Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville for specialized treatment services.
