Annex Between Schools Remains Top Future Goal
Future plans for the Scotland County R-I School District was one of the key topics of the recent workshop held by board of education members.
Items discussed at the October board workshop included a district financial update, new scheduling at the high school next year, and long and short term goal setting.
Board members and administrators listed long range goals they held for the district and prioritized possible future upgrades.
The annex between the elementary and high school easily ranked as the top priority in the eyes of those involved with the workshop. Coming in a close second was improving teacher salaries. Both future goals were ranked by all nine school representatives at the workshop.
Other top priorities include an all-weather track, improvements to the red barn and garage at the transportation headquarters and the construction of a multi-purpose building for the district.
Future goals discussed included a bus cover, lighting upgrades, a new computer lab and a restroom for the playground.
Other considerations varied from adding a third science room and an early childhood/pre-school plan to athletic field upgrades and improvements to school restrooms and the media center.
Remodeling the schools’ rest rooms was a top priority on the workshops short-term planning list.
Other top projects the board members would like to see addressed soon included improvements in the ag department, the addition of a portable computer lab, restrooms and upgrades at the east softball field and replacement of the district’s snow removal vehicle.
Other top ranked short-term goals were an automated watering system for the athletic fields, lawn mower upgrades, driveway and sidewalk improvements.
The school annex and early childhood program development were listed on the short-term and long-term goal lists.
These goals will be presented to a long range planning committee to develop a set of goals for the district. No action was required
