Gorin R-III Board of Education Discusses Upcoming Election at November Meeting

The Gorin R-III Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, November 17, 2009. Vice-President Mohr called the meeting to order and the consent agenda items were approved. The approval motion was made by Berry and seconded by Miller. Motion carried with a 5-0 vote.

Under old business the board discussed the yearbook. Mrs. Townsend informed the board that yearbook ads sales had been started and had been going very well.

In new business Ms. Buckallew gave an overview of the Fish for Schools Philosophy that she and Mrs. Townsend attended. Next, the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant was discussed. Ms. Buckallew shared upcoming events the program is sponsoring, as well as events and activities the students have participated in over the past month.

The board then set the filing dates for the upcoming election. Election filing will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 and close on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. The openings include 1 – 2 year terms and 2 – 3 year terms.

After reviewing the annual school audit Tague made the motion for approval and Berry seconded the motion. The vote was in favor 6 to 0.

Mrs. Townsend then reminded the board of the calendar changes and updates. The district will be dismissing early on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 for professional development. On Wednesday, December 9, 2009 the students will be attending full day and traveling to the Maples Theatre in Macon, Missouri to see “Every Christmas Story Ever Told.” The district will also be in session a full day on Friday, December 18, 2009 and Monday, December 21, 2009. Students will be dismissed at 1:05 on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 for Christmas Break. Classes will resume Monday, January 4, 2010.

The board moved into executive session at 7:32 on a motion from Bass and Mohr. After discussing student and staff matters the board moved out of executive session at 8:37 and adjourned on motion by Berry and Miller.

The next regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting is Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 6:30 in the school cafeteria.
