Traffic Accident Numbers Down Across Troop B

Despite a busy month in October in Scotland County, 2009 is still shaping up to be a safer year on the roadways of northeast Missouri according to traffic accident statistics recently released by the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop B headquarters in Macon.

Troopers investigated seven motor-vehicle accidents in Scotland County during the month, an increase from last year’s totals. Overall Scotland County still is below last year’s total through the first 10 months, with 32 accident investigations compared to 35 in 2008. Nine of 23 accident-related injuries reported in 2009 in Scotland County occurred during October.

October was safer across the entire 16 county area that makes up Troop B where the Patrol investigated 138 traffic accidents, down from 160 last year. That has been the trend for the first 10 months, as Troop B is down from 1,350 accident investigations in the first 10 months of 2008 to 104 through October in 2009.

Unfortunately there were three fatalities in October, up from last year. So far this year 18 people have lost their lives on highways in Troop B. Last year there were 20 fatalities during the same recording period.

Scotland County ranks near the bottom of the Troop B statistics, ahead of only Schuyler County (23) and Putnam County (28) in the fewest number of traffic accidents according to the Troop B numbers. Randolph County has the highest total in Troop B with 140 accident investigations thus far this year.
