Community Thanksgiving Service Starts Fundraising Efforts for New Food Pantry
This year’s Community Thanksgiving Service was truly a community event. “The Scotland County Ministerial Alliance would like to thank the approximately 250 residents of our community who gathered at the SCR-I Elementary School gym to share in giving thanks to God for His benevolence and providential care,” said Pastor Jack Sumption.
The evening was made especially delightful through the music provided by children from the second grade and by members of the seventh grade band. The Community Choir also participated, and as usual, was well received by all.
Hometown boy Terry Rush delivered a challenging message urging our community to see the opportunities before us to meet the needs of others by seeing through the Eyes of Christ.
The S.C.M.A. expressed its gratitude to the many organizations within our community that hosted food drives prior to the service and provided an abundance of food to restock the “emergency food pantry”, used to meet needs between monthly distributions.
During the service plans were unveiled for replacing the current Food Pantry building with a new facility. An offering goal of $5,000 was presented to provide the “foundation” for a building fund, which is also an estimated cost for the building’s actual foundation.
The generosity of the community was demonstrated when the offering was received. On the night of the service, the offering and pledges amounted to $1,960.01, and since that initial offering, individuals and churches have continued to respond generously bringing the present total to $5,680.01.
“The Scotland County Ministerial Alliance is grateful for the strong initial showing of support from the community and wants to encourage individuals, churches and community organizations to continue in their support of this much needed facility,” said Sumption. “Pastors, preachers and representatives participating in the S.C.M.A. will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding building plans or funding for the new facility.”
