MADALIN RUTH BURNETT
(4/4/1917-2/5/2009)

Madalin Ruth (McCoy) Burnett, 91, of Mesa, AZ, formerly of northern Missouri and southern Iowa went to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on February 5, 2009.

Ruth was born on April 4, 1917, in Lafayette County, MO, to Nettie Mae (Ashley) McCoy and Oscar Bennet McCoy. Ruth’s loving way of giving to others from her heart will always be remembered and her spirit will forever live within all who so dearly loved her. Her desire to serve the Lord and her love of the gospel of Jesus Christ and her love of people, especially children, was a blessing and an encouragement to all who were privileged to know her. This included many children who called Ruth “Grandma” when she listened to them quote their Bible verses in the AWANA Club at her church. Ruth loves to sew and knit. Despite the debilitating effects and pain of arthritis, she made many quilts and baby blankets.

Ruth spent many years in Keokuk, IA graduating from Keokuk Senior High School in 1935 and enrolling in nurses training prior to her marriage to Archie Raymond Burnett on August 29, 1941.

Born to this union were seven children, Rodger, Lloyd, Earl, Douglas, Vivan, CW and Marilyn. Survivors include Roger and wife, Marlene of Hiawatha, IA, Earl and wife, Toni of Apache Junction, AZ, Vivan and husband, Daryl Poole of Berwick, IA and CW and wife, Karen of Kenney, IL; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Carleton; three sisters, Viola McCoy, Dorothy Billings and Mabel Neighbors; two sons, Lloyd and Douglas; one daughter, Marilyn and several cousins.

A memorial service to celebrate Ruth’s life will be held a Calvary Baptist Church in Mesa, AZ, on February 10, 2009. A second memorial service will be held at the Campground Cemetery in rural Schuyler County, southeast of Downing, MO, on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster and Downing, MO.
