MARY M. COOK

Mary M. Cook, 75, of Memphis, MO passed away Wednesday evening, April 15, 2009, at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis. The daughter of Orville Orin and Vergil T. Phares Onken, she was born June 26, 1933, in rural Scotland County, south of Memphis, MO.
She graduated from Memphis High School in 1951, and attended Gem City College for one year.
She was married to Kenneth Eggleston in January of 1955 and to this union one son was born . She was united in marriage to William (Bill) Cook on September 24, 1973. They lived on the farm that they owned just south of Memphis until they decided to move to town the end of last year. The highlights of her life were her family, working with her plants and antiquing. Besides the farm, she worked in retail business at Rose Hardware for several years. She always shared a smile with anyone that she met.
Survivors include her husband, William (Bill) Cook of Memphis, MO; one son, Mark Eggleston and friend Patsy Reynolds of Hannibal, MO; three step-children, Janie Dodson of Albuquerque, NM, Scott Cook and his wife Pam of Allen, TX, and Bill L. Cook of Boulder, CO; two grandchildren, Tiffany D. Eggleston and fiancÚ, Stephen Link and Spenser R. Eggleston all of Hannibal, MO; two step-grandchildren, Blake and Evan Cook of Allen, TX; a sister-in law, Joy Nicoli of Memphis, MO; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Orville Orin Onken and one sister, Oleva Onken.
Memorials have been suggested to Scotland County Cancer Fund or the Downing House and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, MO 63555
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Rev. Charles Hammack officiating. Pallbearers were Travis Onken, Rob Moore, Bill Hall, Jeff Kice, Mike Phillips, and Max Bruner. Interment followed in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO. Arrangements were under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis.
