MARRIAM ELIZABETH “BABE” GREGORY
(6/3/1931 – 5/16/2009)



Marriam “Babe” Gregory, 77, of Memphis, MO, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009, at the Overland Park Regional Hospital in Overland Park, KS.

The daughter of Thomas and Amelia Davis Jones she was born June 3, 1931 in Keokuk, IA. She married Robert Gregory in Keokuk, IA. They had three children, Stephen, David and Laura Gregory.

Babe worked for over 17 years as the secretary of the Scotland County Elementary School. She loved to crochet while setting on her back porch with her grandchildren watching the squirrels and birds.

She chaired the Scotland County Blood Drive for many years and enjoyed visiting with everyone as they came in as well as volunteering countless hours for the Antique Fair Association. She said that she had possibly made a thousand tenderloins each year as she laughed about it.

Surviving relatives include her husband, Robert Gregory of Memphis, MO; one daughter, Laura Kramer and husband Jeremy of Lee’s Summit, MO; a son, David Gregory and wife Cathy of Conway, AR; seven grandchildren, Bradley Gregory and wife Holly of Downing, MO, Christina Gregory of Grandview, MO, Sarina Tschanz and husband Zane of St. Louis, MO, David Gregory and wife Melissa of Overland Park, KS, Haley Robinson of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Peyton Kramer of Lee’s Summit, MO; one great- granddaughter, Tagen Tschanz of St. Louis, MO; two brothers, Tom Jones and Mike Jones; and one sister, Chris Jones.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Laura; her son, Stephen; and grandson, Michael.

Memorials are suggested to the Scotland County Cancer Fund and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, Missouri, 63555.

Funeral services were held May 19, 2009, at the Presbyterian Church in Memphis with interment to follow in the Memphis Cemetery. Rev. Charles McCracken and Rev. Leon Buford will officiate.

Pallbearers were Orva West, Tom Priebe, Roger Gosney, Frank Reed, Larry Wiggins and Dallas Schumacher.

Musicians were organist Connie Courtney and vocalists Joe and Lori Fulk.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel of Memphis.
