CAROLYN SUE GERBER
(2/25/1943 – 7/11/2009)



Carolyn Sue Gerber, 66, of Memphis, Missouri passed away Saturday evening, July 11, 2009, at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Missouri.

The daughter of John Lewis and Vera Etta Hamilton Johnson, she was born February 25, 1943 in Neosho, Missouri. She spent her childhood years living in southwest Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma. She worked in the garment factories including making Big Smith “Key” overalls and at one point made Army tents. She worked for the National Garment Factory here in Memphis and the Edina Glove Factory.

On April 12, 1996 she married Bernard Gerber and for the last thirteen years she resided here in Memphis.

Carolyn enjoyed spending time with her family. She was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and rarely missed a broadcast. Often times she would have one ear to the radio and both eyes on a John Wayne movie.

She enjoyed fishing, sightseeing, and crocheting when her health permitted her to.

She was a member of the Pentecostal Church in Memphis.

Surviving relatives include her husband Bernard “Bernie” of Memphis, MO; her six children, Bill Johnson and his wife Kena of San Antonio, Texas, Oscar Ray June Jr. and wife Amanda of Kansas City, Kansas, Jeff June and fiancée, Annie of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Tina Gerber and husband John of Memphis, Missouri, Edward June of Lake Ozark, Missouri, and Tammy Duncan and husband Donald of Joplin, Missouri; two step-children, Kelly Ann Hofmann of Quincy, Illinois and Bernard Gerber III of Farmington, Missouri; 11 grandchildren, Jessi and Bonnie Brock, PeJay Brown, Mark Vaughan, Trever Fletcher, Leah, Grace and Joshua Gerber, Telsa and Lyric Duncan, Henry “Hank” Bernard-June; four step great-grandchildren; one sister, Irita Warner of Tulsa, OK; two brothers, Terry Johnson of the state of Arkansas and Bryant Church of the state of California; several aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

Memorials are suggested to the family and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, Missouri 63555.

Funeral services for Carolyn Sue Gerber, 66, of Memphis, Missouri were held at the Payne Funeral Chapel Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at 10:30 A.M. Officiating the service was Rev. June Cooper. Interment followed in the Memphis Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John Gerber, Joshua Gerber, Randall Hillyer, Tom Christener, Bruce Marshall and Rodney Baldwin. Music was provided by Ruth and Rick Addison.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis.
