MERRILL D. SIDES

Merrill D. Sides, 68, of Muscatine, IA, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2009 at her home in Muscatine, IA. Visitation was held on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Per the family’s wishes, no services will be held. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in Merrill’s name. Sympathy notes may be left for Merrill’s family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

Merrill Dean Simerl was born on September 17, 1940, in rural Memphis, MO, the daughter of Eldon and Lillian (Stone) Simerl. On January 11, 1959, Merrill was united in marriage to Donald Gene Sides in Memphis, MO.

Merrill was employed at Muscatine Community College for several years. Merrill was always a very neat person. She enjoyed staying at the cabin on the river, traveling to Branson on vacation, Christmas time and spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren.

Merrill will be deeply missed by her husband, Donald of Muscatine, IA; her children, Donnetta Brotherton and her husband, John of Grandview, IA, Deborah Conard and her husband, Rick of Muscatine, IA, Douglas Sides of Muscatine, IA, Darren Sides of Lone Tree, IA, Derrick Sides and his wife, Michelle of Fruitland, IA, Deanna Gerdts and her husband, Randy of Columbus Junction, IA, and Dustin Sides and fiancé, Lisa Clapp of Muscatine, IA; her grandchildren, Devon, Stephanie Templeton and her husband, Michael, Maegen, Demi, Steve, Ian, Drew, Nathan, Taylor and Quinten; one sister, Carol Scurlock of Bloomfield, IA; and two brothers, Larry Simerl and his wife, Sherry of Agency, IA, and Terry Simerl and his wife, Patty of Memphis, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Mindy.
