ORVILLE (BUDDY) BECHTEL
(4/26/1934 - 10/15/2009)



Orville DeWayne (Buddy) Bechtel, 75, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, died Thursday, October 15, 2009, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. He was born April 26, 1934 at Memphis, Missouri, the son of Charles and Florence Smith Bechtel.

On March 13, 1966, he was united in marriage to Helen Short Rauch at Nowata, Oklahoma. He was a laborer-foreman for the Ceco, Corp, a construction company based in Des Moines for 43 years retiring in the mid 1990ís. He was a member of the Local 177 construction union, and attended St. Johnís Lutheran Church in Oskaloosa. He was a devoted husband, and enjoyed watching NASCAR and coin collecting.

His family includes his wife, Helen Bechtel of Oskaloosa, IA; children Joe (& Betty) Rauch of Jay, Oklahoma, Anna (& Jim) Breuklander of Oskaloosa, IA, Carroll Rauch, Jr. (& Belinda Todd) of Oskaloosa, IA, Danny Bechtel of Cedar Rapids, IA, Billy Bechtel of Oskaloosa, IA, and David Bechtel of Milton, IA; 20 grandchildren; 18 great- grandchildren; a brother, Max Bechtel of Burlington, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gary Rauch; a daughter, Mary Kerr; a grandson, Carl Rauch; four brothers, Charles, Stanley, and Freddie Bechtel, and Basil Hyde; and three sisters, Irene Downing, Pauline Laws, and Dorothy Charles.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, IA, with the Reverend Stephen Lane officiating. Burial was in the Abel Cemetery, east of Fremont, Iowa.
