ROGER MORRIS RIEBEL
(10/22/1926 – 10/13/2009)



Roger Morris Riebel passed away October 13, 2009 at home on his farm near Arbela, Missouri. He was born October 22, 1926, the son of Alva Clark and Lucille Pearl (Stone) Riebel. Roger was born and raised in the Arbela area, only leaving during his tour of duty with the United States Navy and to attend college. Roger graduated from the Memphis High School in 1943. After graduation he enlisted in the Navy, serving four years aboard the USS Radford. Upon returning to Missouri he attended college at Missouri State University for one year studying Animal Husbandry. Roger came back to Scotland County, Missouri, where he thoroughly enjoyed the remainder of his life.

Roger married Mareta (Golden) Riebel on January 18, 1948, in Memphis, Missouri. They spent all of their 59 years together on their farm near Arbela, Missouri. Roger enjoyed being outside on the farm, hunting, and spending time with his family. One of his proudest accomplishments was serving as Scotland County Clerk for 20 years, and then as Eastern District Commissioner for the following 10 years. Roger was a member of the Memphis United Methodist Church and a member of the VFW Post 4958.

Roger is survived by five children: Tommy and Nancy (Girardin) Riebel of Memphis and his children, Joel Harrity of Blue Springs, MO, and Lee Riebel of Memphis; Cheryl and Rick Golbricht and their children, Ki Robinson, and Kelly (Joni) Robinson of Memphis; Roger L. and Crystal Riebel of Memphis and their children, Ranina (Brian) Robinson, and Amanda (Chad) Alshouse of Altoona, IA; Karla Matlock of Clarence, MO, and her children Kris (Tenneille) Speer of Fort Madison, IA, Tiffany and Brooks (Small) of Columbia, MO, and Tara Matlock of Clarence, MO; and Clay and Tammy Riebel and their children Anthony Fox and Corey (Kim) Fox of Wayland, MO. Roger is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren: Katelyn Harrity, Shana Rockhold, Kaleb and Logan Reese, Caelin and Carman Robinson, Mayson Robinson, Amri and Thatcher Alshouse, Zander and Zayne Speer, Jayden Small, Aubrey, Trestin, Kaden and Johnathon Fox; and three great-great granddaughters: Lillian and Keana Reese, and Callie Rockhold; Roger’s sisters, Lurla (George) Meinhardt, Mary Jane Bergen; brother Jamie (Doris) Riebel; brother-in-law Delbert Shelton Golden; and sisters-in-law Betty Jo Golden, Anita Golden, and Maxine Golden also survive.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mareta; their parents; one granddaughter; Kathy Jo (Riebel) Harrity; and one brother, Darrell Riebel.

The family has suggested memorials to the Memphis United Methodist Church and may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.

Funeral services were held on Friday, October 16, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Memphis with Rev. Terry Lippstreu officiating. Interment followed in the Memphis Cemetery. Sarah Myers was the organist.

Pallbearers were Tony Shelley, Ronnie Kice, Donnie and Darrell Harvey, Lonnie Sears and Danny Priebe.

Honorary Pallbearers were Gary Dial, Jerry Sears, Arlo Trueblood, Mike Stephenson, Betty Lodewegen and E. Richard Webber, United States District Judge.

Military Graveside Rites were provided by the Wallace W. Gillespie Post #4958 of Memphis.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis.
