HAZEL “ELAINE” PHILLIPS
(8/4/1934 - 11/4/2009)



Hazel “Elaine” Phillips, 75, of Memphis, MO passed away at Scotland County Memorial Hospital on November 4, 2009.

The daughter of James Russell and Alta Mustoe Hall she was born August 4, 1934 in rural Scotland County, MO.

Elaine attended Poe School in rural Scotland County and graduated from the Memphis High School in 1952.

On March 22, 1952 Elaine was united in marriage to Charles Elmer “Charlie” Phillips and to this union three children were born.

Elaine worked alongside Charlie in the service station business known as Charlie’s Super Saver, The Junction Café and later C&E Manufacturing. They also worked together with his family in sales and service with Phillips Conveyor Company in Memphis. They moved to Quincy, IL, in 1966 where they owned and operated an apartment rental business. In 1970 they moved to Phoenix, AZ, where they were in real estate and continued in real estate after moving to Kingman, AZ. Even though Elaine lost her partner she has continued to manage the business. She moved back to Memphis in 2007 to be close to family and friends.

Survivors include two sons, Mike of Memphis formerly of Escondido California, Roger and wife Beth of Manhattan Beach, California; and one daughter, Kathy Meinhardt and companion Rodney Hatfield of Arbela, MO; six grandchildren, Ryan Phillips, Mark Phillips, Max Phillips, Jason Meinhardt, Rachel Cantu, and Damon Meinhardt; two great-grandchildren, Mattic Meinhardt and brother Coby Meinhardt. Also surviving are one brother James W. “Bill” Hall and wife Charlotte of Memphis and one sister Juanita Darnielle of Eldon, Iowa; several nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband; parents; and sisters Lorea Waide and brother-in-law Verlin Waide, Rosalie Bainbridge and brother-in-law Charles Bainbridge and brother-in-law Dale Darnielle.

The family has suggested memorials to the Brock Cemetery or the Scotland County Memorial Hospital and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, MO 63555.

Funeral services were held November 8, 2009 at the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis with Pastor Dan Hite officiating. Pallbearers were Elaine’s nephews John Hall, Russell Hall, Alan Darnielle, David Bainbridge, Robert Bainbridge, and Steve Bainbridge. Honorary Pallbearers were her grandchildren Ryan, Mark and Max Phillips, Jason Meinhardt, Rachel Cantu and Damon Meinhardt. Interment followed in the Memphis Cemetery.
