Clara Elnora Lancaster, 87, of Memphis died December 5, 2009 in Scotland County Memorial Hospital.

She was born November 11, 1922 in Davis County, Iowa, the daughter of Frederick Acton and Minnie Bell (Wilcox) Acton.

Clara graduated from Memphis High School in 1941. She married Basil Lancaster on May 13, 1944. He preceded her in death on March 12, 1987.

After high school, she was a teacher for three years, and then became a homemaker and farmed in Scotland County. She remained on the farm until January 2009 when she became a resident at Scotland County Care Center, where she enjoyed the staff and friends.

Clara was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers, Ivan Acton and Ernie Acton; two sisters, Marie Anderson and Lavelle Garrison.

Survivors include her sons, Harvey and wife Peggy Lancaster of Quincy, and Larry and wife Carol Lancaster, of Wentzville, MO; grandchildren, Ginger Whittaker of Quincy, IL, Jill Brady and husband Richard of Ft. Wayne, IN, Gina Hochgraber and husband Brent of Terrell, TX, Tanya Shoults and husband Robert Jr. of Silex, MO, Chad Lancaster and wife Ashley of Moscow Mills, MO, and Tricia Lancaster of O’Fallon, MO; great-grandchildren, Dalton Whittaker, Rachel and Lauren Brady, Wessley and Roree Lancaster and Hayden Lancaster; sister-in-law Eva Acton of Burlington, IA; nieces, nephews, friends and special neighbors.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m., December 9, 2009 in the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis with Larry Smith, pastor of the Downing Christian Church officiating. Burial was in the Memphis Cemetery. Chad Lancaster, Richard Brady, Brent Hochgraber, Richard Frederick, Lowell Woods, and Leslie Woods served as pallbearers.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society and can be left at or mailed to the Gerth Funeral Service, 115 S. Main St., Memphis, MO 63555.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Gerth Funeral Service from their Memphis chapel.
