CATHERINE FERNE DIXON
(3/14/1916 – 9/20/2009)



Catherine F. Dixon, 93, a long time resident of Lebanon, MO, died on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at the Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro, MO.

Catherine was born March 14, 1916 in Green Castle, MO, the daughter of Thomas and Sarah (Heaton) Briggs. She grew up in Green Castle where she attended her early schooling. Later she moved with her family to Memphis, MO where she graduated from high school in 1934. After high school, she attended the Northeast Missouri State Teacher’s College where she received her teacher’s certification.

Catherine married John H. Dixon on May 27, 1942 in Tacoma, WA. In 1951, the couple moved to Weston, Oregon where they lived until moving to Lebanon in 1953. Catherine worked as a substitute teacher in Lebanon for many years.

Mrs. Dixon was a member of the Lebanon First United Methodist Church where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school for many years. She was a member of the Lebanon Herb Club, Lebanon Book Club and Sweet Adeline’s singing group. She loved writing poetry and playing the piano.

Catherine was preceded in death by her husband John on July 29, 2001.

She is survived by sons, Harold “Ramie” Dixon of Hillsboro and William “Bill” Dixon of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; daughter, Sally Atkin of Meridian, ID; and five grandchildren.

A Funeral service was held September 25 at the Huston-Jost Funeral Home. A private interment will be in the Lebanon I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
