Three Pointers Lead Tigers to Trophy Win at North Shelby

Points in the paint have been the keys to success for Scotland County, but on Friday night it was the perimeter game that helped lead the Tigers to victory in the consolation finals of the North Shelby Tournament.

SCR-I knocked off the host Raiders 48-37 for the teamís second straight victory.

The Tigers knocked down four three pointers to help build a first half lead that they made stand with a solid shooting performance at the free throw line.

Kasey Dial and Harley Stone both connected from behind the arc in the first period to help Scotland County take a 10-8 lead.

Brandon Garnett drilled a pair of three pointers in the second period. Stone added a couple buckets to push SCR-Iís lead to 22-18 at the intermission.

The third period saw the Tigers defense hold North Shelby to just six points. Garnett and Jacob Howard combined for eight points and Kyle Shelley converted a three-point play to put SCR-I on top 33-24 with just eight minutes to play.

Scotland County made nine of 12 free throws in the fourth period to seal the 48-37 victory.

Garnett finished with 16 points to lead Scotland County (4-13). Howard finished with 14 points and both Stone and Shelley added seven points in the win.

North Shelby (4-6) was led in scoring by Dahn Kemp and Josh McEwen with 14 points each.
