Tigers Bury Gophers 57-38 For Third Straight Victory

A huge first quarter helped Scotland County make it three wins in a row as the Tigers ganged up on Green City in a 57-38 victory January 26th in Memphis.

Back-to-back fastbreak scores by Brandon Garnett put SCR-I ahead 8-2 just minutes into the contest.

Jacob Howard and Kyle Shelley combined for 13 first period points as the Tigers dominated the inside game early on.

Garnett hit from long range and Harely Stone added another three pointer at the buzzer as the Tigers led 25-10 after the first eight minutes of play.

The margin grew to 31-10 as Garnett and Howard hit shots to start the second period.

But Green City went a perfect eight for eight at the free throw line in the second period to make the score 36-20 at the intermission.

Coach Lance Campbell went 10 deep in the second period, getting youngsters Dakota Wells and Derrick Muntz into the fray to earn some valuable varsity experience.

The two teams traded buckets in the third period as SCR-I maintained a 44-29 lead heading into the final eight minutes of the contest.

Dylan Brundage scored seven of his game-high 21 points for the Gophers in the final period but the Tigers still outscored Green City 13-9 in the fourth period to win 57-38.

Garnett finished with 16 points to lead Scotland County (5-13) to the win. Howard and Shelley each finished with 14 points on the night.
