Raiders Avenge Tourney Loss With League Win Over SCR-I
A key third period rally helped North Shelby avenge a loss to Scotland County and pick up a key Tri-Rivers Conference victory on January 27th in Shelbyville.
The Raiders rallied from a one-point halftime deficit to beat the Tigers 39-35. SCR-I had bested the squad a week earlier in the North Shelby Tournament.
Jacob Howard hit a couple buckets early to help the Tigers build an 8-7 lead at the end of the first period.
The senior forward continued his strong play in the paint while Brandon Garnett added five points, including a three pointer in the second period to keep the Tigers on top 20-19 at the break.
But Josh McEwen hit a big three pointer that helped North Shelby mount an 11-6 run in the third period to turn the game around.
Howard scored seven fourth period points but it wasn’t enough as the Raiders held on for the 39-35 win.
Dahn Kemp and Alex Daniel each finished with 12 points to top North Shelby (5-6, 1-2 TRC). Howard led all scorers with 17 points. Garnett finished with seven points for Scotland County, which dropped to 5-14 on the year and 0-2 in the conference.
