Junior High Campus Bowl Squad Take Home Three Trophies at North Shelby Tourney

If you were to write a script about last Saturdays escapades of the Scotland County junior high quiz bowlers, you could not have written a better one than what the teams actually did at the North Shelby Tournament.

Three Tiger junior high squads were entered in the tournament and all three teams came home with trophies as the split eighth grade teams took home first and fourth in their division while the seventh grade team captured fourth in their division.

Not only that, but five Tigers were placed on the All-Tournament squad; eighth graders Jennifer Miller, Thomas Shannan, and Joshua Keller, and seventh graders Shaye Wright and Emily Ebeling.

The victorious eighth grade squad consisting of Joshua Keller, Thomas Shannan, Lee Tague, and Sammi Tobler bulldozed their way to their second straight North Shelby championship by overwhelming Kirksville in the finals, 205 to 145 and earlier clobbering South Shelby, 230-105 in the semi-final contest, and upending North Shelby, 250-60, in the quarter finals. Their undefeated day began in the morning with preliminary round victories over North Shelby, South Shelby, and Monroe City.

The split eighth grade squad consisting of Jennifer and Zachary Miller, Tyler Small, Brandon Monroe and Morgan Carleton also made it into the championship round. They knocked off Knox County 160-120 in the quarterfinals before being edged by South Shelby, 145-130 and Kirksville, 145-90. In the morning rounds, Scotland County scored impressive victories over Clark County and Highland, 170-120 and 145-115. Their only morning loss was to Kirksville, 170-125.

The seventh graders made up of Christopher Smeltser, Shaye Wright, Emily Ebeling, Hailey Dial, Jordan Doubet, and Lucas Howard rolled into the semi-finals with a 165-95 drubbing of Putnam County. Close losses to North Shelby and Putnam County in the semi-final and third place game gave the Tigers a hard fought fourth place finish. Earlier victories over South Shelby and Monroe City insured the seventh grade Scotland Countians a place in the championship round.

The junior high plays at Knox County February 27th.
