Eighth Grade Girls Conclude Hoops Season With 5-8 Record

The Scotland County eighth grade girls basketball team concluded the 2008-09 basketball season with a 5-8 record.

The Lady Tigers dropped the season opener on November 3rd to Clark County by a final score of 31-12. SCR-I trailed just 10-5 at the half before Clark County pulled away for the win.

Scotland County didnít wait long to get into the win column. They very next night, the Lady Tigers bested Canton 31-13. Hailey Dial led the way with nine points. Megan Creek finished with eight points.

Putnam County dropped SCR-I to 1-2 on the year with a 38-6 defeat on November 6th. Dial had four points in the loss.

The teamís record fell to 1-3 following a 35-17 loss to Schuyler County on November 10th. Bethany Radar led the Lady Tigers in scoring with five points. Katie Howard had four points and Abbey Duley added three points.

SCR-I avenged its season opening loss to Clark County with a 13-10 win over the Indians on November 11th. Radar scored 11 on the Lady Tigers 13 points in the victory.

The Lady Tigers made it two in a row with a 32-23 victory over Milan in the opener of the Putnam County Tourney on November 17th. Megan Creek had a season-high 18 points in the victory. Radar pitched in with 11 points as the team improved to 3-3 on the year.

The host squad kept Scotland County out of the title game. The Midgets bested the lady Tigers 37-5 in the semifinals.

The girls rebounded to bring home the third place trophy by beating Schuyler County 19-15. Radar led the team in scoring with nine points and Duley contributed with six points.

North Shelby kept the Lady Tigers from breaking .500 on the year with a two-point defeat. The Raiders dropped SCR-I to 4-5 with a 22-20 defeat. Howard topped the scorebook with nine points.

Howard followed that up with a 10-point performance on December 5th but it wasnít enough as Scotland County fell to Knox County 32-18. Radar had four points in the loss.

The Lady Tigers closed out the year at the Schuyler County Tournament. SCR-I dropped the opener to the host squad 29-23. Radar led the way in scoring with 11 points. Creek and Howard chimed in with four points.

Knox County sent the Lady Tigers to the consolation game with a 43-7 defeat. Scotland County was able to close out the year with a victory, beating Milan 32-20. Howard led the way with 14 points and Radar added nine as Scotland County improved to 5-8 on the year.
