Rams Ruin Home Finale For Scotland County Seniors
A big run to start the second period helped Schuyler County put a damper on the basketball home finale for Scotland County on February 20th.
The Rams scored the first nine points of the second period to build a 27-13 lead en route to a 76-51 victory.
The Tigers kept the game close in the opening frame. Brandon Garnet had a pair of field goals to start the contest. After Kyle Shelley sank a pair of free throws, Jacob Howard put SCR-I ahead 8-7 with a bucket in the paint.
SCR-I regained the lead when Shelley converted a three-point play. But Schuyler County closed the first period with an 8-2 run to lead 18-13.
The second period flourish expanded the margin to double digits before Dakota Wells drilled a three pointer to make it 27-16 with 5:01 left in the first half.
Tim Gorman scored seven of his game-high 21 points in the second period to keep the Rams on top 37-22 at the break.
Shelley hit a couple shots in the third period and Garnett converted a three-point play in the third period but Schuyler County continued to add to the lead. Jacob Winkler saw to that personally, as he matched SCR-Iís total output in the period with 10 points of his own as the Rams went ahead 56-32.
Scotland County opened up the offense in the final period. Kasey Dial connected on a three pointer and scored seven points over all in the final eight minutes. Howard put in six points and Shelley added five points. But the Rams kept pace, actually outscoring SCR-I 20-17 in the final period to produce the final margin of 76-51.
SCR-I fell to 6-18 and 1-6 in the Tri-Rivers Conference. Shelley led the team in scoring with 16 points. Garnett added 11 points and Howard had 10 points in his final game on his home court.
Gorman led Schuyler County (15-8, 3-2) with 21 points. Winkler added 17 points.
