Kaitlin Caldwell Earns All-District Basketball Honors
The #1 team in Missouri Class 2 girls basketball dominated the post-season awards as presented by the Northeast Missouri Sportswriters and Sports Casters Association, which announced the NEMO All-District teams on March 24th.
Canton had the top three players on the first team all-district squad and Seth Minter also taking home Coach of the Year honors. Tori Niemann topped the all-star list along with teammates Jessie Logsdon and Lindsay Lillard. Niemann and Lodgsdon, both juniors, will return next year to give Minter a pre-season favorite to return to Columbia for another shot at a state title, after the team loss in the championship game this year.
Joining the Canton trio on the all-district first team were Clopton’s Deaven Omohundro, a senior, and Lauren Jaeger, a freshman; and seniors Jordan Ewigman of Marceline, Katie Steele of Putnam County, and Tessa Ramer of Knox County.
Three Tri-Rivers Conference players were honored on the all-district second team. Junior Carly Bohle of Milan led off the list, which also included Scotland County’s Kaitlin Caldwell, a senior, and Putnam County’s Jamie Mullenix, a senior. Rounding out the all-district second team were Jordan Spradling, a junior from Van Far; Katie Gladbach, a senior from Marceline; Lonni Miller, a senior from Silex; and Tessa Henderson, a junior from Paris.
District champions Knox County placed a trio of players on the all-district squads for the boys. The All-District First Team consisted of: Jon Gilliam-Jr., Paris; Dennis Dent-Sr. Knox County; Mitchel Penn-Sr., Knox County; Justin Ellison-Sr., Canton; Daniel Mallette-Jr., Putnam County; Anthony Davis-Jr., Van-Far; Andy Fleming-Jr., Silex; and Logan Hill-Sr., Milan
The second team honorees were: Colt Carper-Soph., Canton; Justin Reeves-Soph, Knox County; Garrett Thomas-Sr., Paris; Michael Stoneburner-Sr., North Shelby; and Jeff Floray-Jr., Marceline.
Coach of the Year was Wade Billington of Paris.
