Schuyler County Captures District 6 Campus Bowl Crown
Schuyler County captured the Class 2, District 6 Campus Bowl crown Saturday by downing Canton, 240 to 80 in the championship game held at Scotland County High School in Memphis.
Schuyler County and Canton earned places in the first place game by victories in the semi-final contests: Schuyler County upending Knox County, 205 to 160, and Canton outlasting Putnam County, 195 to 110.
The six-team District Tourney was narrowed to four teams after all six-teams participated in a 3-game modified round robin to determine who would advance to the championship rounds. Scotland County lost their chance to advance after losing a tight game to Knox County, 165 to 140 while the other participating squad, Milan, finishing the preliminary round without a victory.
Schuyler County advances to the sectional round that will be held Thursday at Elsberry, winners of District 5. Schuyler County and Elsberry will play a best two out of three match to determine who will advance to the state tourney in Columbia in early May.
Members of the All-District 6 team were chosen based on the number of toss-ups answered and then averaged by the games played by their respective teams. Cody Ford of Schuyler County was declared captain by averaging the most toss-ups correctly answered at 7.6. Next were Andrew Steinbeck of Canton, 6.8, followed by Ben Harder of Knox County at 4.75 and Christina Duzan of Scotland County at 3.33.
Rounding out the District 6 All-District team were Ruben Bueno, Milan, 3.33; Morgan Murphy, Putnam County, 3.0; Wesley Metz, Schuyler County, 3.0; and Nick Dochterman of Canton, 2.6.
