Golf Season Comes to Close With 7th Place Finish at Districts

The 2009 golf season came to a close for the Scotland County Tigers on May 6th at the Class 1 District 3 tournament held in Moberly at the Timberlake Golf Course.

SCR-I finished 7th in the 11-school district event with a score of 421 and also failed to advance any individual golfers to the state tournament.

LaPlata claimed the team title with a final score of 332. Marceline, Canton and Salisbury all tied for second place with scores of 334.

Putnam County was fifth with a score of 379 followed by Milan with a 388. The Tigers tied for seventh with Northeast (Cairo) High School.

Westran did not have enough golfers to qualify for a team score and Princeton and Atlanta did not send teams to the event.

Shane Kressig of Salisbury had the top individual performance with a round of 67. Canton's Erick Potts was second with a score of 78 followed by Tyler Hamilton of Marceline Jake Waddle of LaPlata with scores of 78 and Ritney Smiley of Marceline with a 79 rounding out the top five.

The top 15 individual performers (excluding the three LaPlata golfers who qualified with the team score) will advance to state play.

Those golfers included LaPlata's Dalton Smith (6th-79) and Weston Smith (7th-81); Tim Jordan of Marceline (8th-81); Rockne Decosterof Canton (9th-82); Paden John of Westran (10th-83); Derek Tribble of Putnam County (11th-84); Paul Lazar of Salisbury (12th-85); Chris McGlothlin of Marceline (13th-87); and Canton's Paul Ricketts (14th-87) and Austin Williams (15th-87).

Replacing the three LaPlata team qualifiers will be Garrett Serbin of Canton (88), Andrew Gates of Marceline (88) and Devon Gordon of Salisbury (90).

Kasey Dial was the top individual performer for SCR-I carding a 95 to narrowly miss the state qualifier cut. Brandon Garnett finished with a 99. Jerad Fuller carded a 112 and Michael Moore shot a 115.
