Softball Squad Busts Out Bats in 13-2 Win Over Novinger

After rallying in its final at bat in the teamís first two victories, Scotland County took care of business early on Thursday night in Novinger, batting around in two of the first four innings en route to a 13-2 victory over the Wildcats.

After a quiet first inning, SCR-I blew the game open in the top of the second. The Wildcats opened the door with a pair of errors to start the rally. Still Novinger looked poised to escape the inning unscathed. But with two outs Megan Creek delivered an RBI double. Two batters later Kelly Lister did the same helping the Lady Tigers plate six runs.

Novinger trimmed the deficit to 6-1 in the third inning, when an SCR-I error extended the inning and allowed an unearned run to score off Lister in her second start of the season on the mound.

The senior looked impressive, striking out seven in four innings of work. Creek struck out two in one inning of relief work. Novinger had six hits and a pair of walks. The lone earned run came in the bottom of the fifth inning off of Creek.

That wasnít enough to extend the game, which ended after five innings courtesy of the 10-run rule.

Scotland County batted around again in the fourth frame, plating seven runs. Cali Holt led off the inning with a single. After Lister reached on an error, a walk to Loren Smith loaded the bases. Skyler Alderton delivered an RBI single followed by a walk to Courtney Jackson to force another run in. Monica Weidenbenner, Katie Howard and Augusta Purvis all delivered RBIs as SCR-I rolled to the 13-2 win to improve to 3-1 on the season.
