SCR-I Buries Gophers 62-40 in Tournament Semifinals

Scotland County overcame a slow start to advance to the championship round of the Novinger Tournament with a 62-40 victory over Green City on December 2nd.

The Gophers led 11-9 after one period but the Tigers dug out of that hole with a big second quarter scoring attack.

Kyle Shelley led the surge with seven points. The Tigers attacked the rim, earning 12 trips to the free throw line during the rally. Kasey Dial knocked down a three pointer that helped the Tigers pull ahead 28-20 at the intermission.

Eight different Tigers put points on the board in the third period when Scotland County put the game away with a 22-9 run. Shelley continued to provide solid effort in the paint, scoring six points during the stretch. Dial knocked down his second three pointer of the night as the Tigers led 50-29.

The bench continued a strong showing in the fourth period as Derrick Muntz, Brock Bondurant and Sabe Sears insured the Scotland County lead by helping outscore Green City 12-11 in the final eight minutes of the 62-40 win.

Shelley helped SCR-I improve to 2-0 on the year with a 17-point performance. Dial added 13 points and Brandon Garnett had eght points. All 10 SCR-I players scored in the game.
