Cougars Claim Catfight Win Over Tigers

A huge fourth quarter just wasn’t enough for Scotland County to overcome Highland on December 15 in Ewing.

The Tigers struggled to put points on the board early, scoring just two points in the first period on a pair of free throws allowing the Cougars to jump out to an 11-2 lead.

Both squads go things rolling offensively in the second period. Highland added to the lead at half time by outscoring SCR-I 17-12 in the second period to lead 28-14 at the break.

The advantage swelled to 44-25 at the end of the third period.

Scotland County exploded for 27 points in the fourth period. The Tigers surpassed the scoring total of the first three quarters combined in the game’s final eight minutes. Harley Stone and Brandon Garnett did the bulk of the damage, scoring 10 points a piece in the fourth period.

But Highland kept pace, scoring 19 points down the stretch to hold on for the 63-52 win.

Garnett finished with 15 points to lead Scotland County (2-3) and Stone added 12 points. Kyle Shelley scored eight points for SCR-I.
