Lady Rams Rough Up SCR-I 9-1 in Softball Action

It was a new face on the mound, but the same results for Schuyler County as the Lady Rams continued their recent dominance of SCR-I with a 9-1 win in Memphis on September 8th.

The departure of graduate Alyssa Greenstreet changed little for the Lady Rams who got an all-star performance from their 2009 hurler, Kaitlin Stump.

The senior struck out 10 and allowed just three hits holding the Lady Tigers bats in check until the sixth inning.

Schuyler County jumped on top with three hits off freshman hurler Megan Creek in the top of the first inning.

The lead grew to 4-0 in the third inning without the benefit of a single base hit. Schuyler County took advantage of a base on balls and three SCR-I errors to score three runs.

Scotland County put runners in scoring position in five of the first six innings but was unable to come up with the key hit to push any runs across.

The Lady Tigers trimmed the deficit to 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Kelly Lister cracked a double. She scored when Loren Smith reached on an error. But with runners at first and second, Stump recorded her 10th strike out of the game to end the rally.

The Rams put the game away with four runs in the top of the seventh, again taking advantage of several Scotland County fielding miscues.

Creek took the loss on the mound for SCR-I, giving up nine runs, but only two earned runs. Schuyler County managed eight hits and three walks while striking out 10 times.

Lister, Smith and Courtney Jackson were each 1-3 at the plate for the Lady Tigers (4-3). Schuyler County improved to 4-2 with the victory.
