Campbell Withdraws From County Treasurer Race

Recently appointed interim Scotland County Treasurer Kathy A. Campbell has officially withdrawn from the 2010 election for the office and also has announced she will not seek the government’s appointment for the office, which is expected sometime this month.

Campbell was sworn in to the office on March 1st, following the death of long-time Scotland County Treasurer LaMayra Brown. Campbell, who is Brown’s sister-in-law, is employed as the Scotland County deputy collector of revenue.

Kathy agreed to fill the vacancy on an interim basis at the request of other family members. She indicated she thought she had to file for the office in order to fill that temporary role, but once she learned she had instead filed for the November election, she quickly withdrew her name from the ballot via the county clerk’s office.

Campbell also informed the county she will not be seeking the governor’s official appointment to the post that will hold the office until the new treasurer is elected in November.

Her withdrawal from the race leaves one candidate filed for the post, Republican Kathy Kiddoo.

Parties interested in seeking the governor’s appointment can fill out the necessary paper work with the county clerk’s office or can contact the local political committee’s that are expected to submit a party nomination to the governor’s office for consideration in making the official appointment.
