Senator Shoemyer Tours Scotland County Hospital

Scotland County Hospital CEO Marcia Dial talks with Senator Wes Shoemyer during the lawmaker’s visit to the facility in Memphis last week.

Senator Wes Shoemyer (D-18) visited Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, MO, on March 11th. He was greeted by hospital CEO, Marcia Dial and other hospital officials. The purpose of Senator Shoemyer’s visit was to respond to an invitation offered by Dial recently, when she was in Jefferson City, to tour the facility.

Hospital CEO, Marcia Dial said, “I offered the invitation to Senator Shoemyer to visit our hospital because I want to make sure the legislators in Jefferson City know that we have a critical access hospital up here in this corner of the state that is not only meeting the residents’ needs, but exceeding their expectations, with all of the healthcare services that patients can utilize right here, close to home. Meeting patient’s needs in a rural area does not come without a lofty price tag, and I want to keep our hospital on the radar screens of our friends at the state Capitol when they are discussing healthcare issues and the positive or negative impact their decisions could have on rural hospitals and the patients we serve.”

A tour of the hospital facilities was provided to the Senator and his staff. Dial gave a brief overview of the potential expansion that the hospital would like to pursue in the near future in order to continue to meet the healthcare needs of the residents in the hospital’s district and expand services.

Senator Shoemyer said, “I am impressed, very impressed with the level and extent of services you provide at this hospital. Most impressive, to me, is the seamless delivery of care between the hospital, clinics, and outpatient services all under one roof. This took a lot of vision and planning to get to where you are today.”
