Mallett, Peters Join Races for County Offices

With the deadline nearing for filing for county office, two more candidates have added their name to the list for consideration in August.

Chris Mallett has filed for the office of Scotland County Clerk on the Democrat ticket. He joins current deputy clerk Batina Dodge on the August primary ticket for the post being vacated by current County Clerk Betty Lodewegen.

She filed for Scotland County presiding commissioner on the Republican ticket. Current presiding commissioner Chipper Harris filed on the Democrat ticket.

Garth Lloyd has submitted the necessary petition of signatures to secure a ballot spot in November as an independent candidate for the post. He has until Monday, July 16 to officially declare his candidacy, which as an independent, is not subject to the August primary.

Jo Ann Peters filed last week to seek the office of Scotland County Treasurer on the Democrat ticket. Kathy Kiddoo previously had filed for the post on the Republican ticket.

Incumbents Dana Glasscock (County Recorder), Anita Watkins (Circuit Clerk), Karl DeMarce (Associate Circuit Court Judge), Kathy Becraft (Collector of Revenue) and Kimberly J. Nicoli (Prosecuting Attorney), all have filed for re-election on the Democrat ballot.

First Circuit Judge Gary Dial also has filed for re-election.

Candidates have until 5:00 p.m. on March 30th to file for office on a political ticket to be decided in the August 2010 primary election.
