Churches, Community Groups Join Together For Easter Celebrations

Area residents will have a wide variety of opportunities to celebrate the Easter season in Scotland County courtesy of the efforts of a number of churches, businesses and community groups.

The Wyaconda Christian Church will host a Maundy Thursday Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Guests are asked to enter via the basement as the seder meal will be the theme of the service to be held in the fellowship hall.

The Scotland County Ministerial Alliance (SCMA) is hosting a Community Good Friday service Friday, April 2, at 7:00 p.m., at the Memphis United Methodist Church. The service will follow a long-standing Christian tradition called a “tenebrae,” known as a service of darkness and light. Numerous area ministers will be participating, focusing primarily on the scriptures and music that remind guests of the great sacrifice Christ made for us on the cross.

The SCMA will be accepting donations in an effort to raise half of the remaining $10,000 needed for phase one of the new food pantry facility in Memphis.

Easter Eggs will be in high demand on Saturday as a pair of local egg hunts will cater to area youth. Primrose Realty will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt on the Scotland County Courthouse lawn and the Memphis City Square beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Pamida will host an Easter Egg hunt at 2:00 p.m. in the store parking lot.

A number of churches will be hosting special sunrise services on Easter Sunday.

The First Baptist Church will host a sunrise service at the Memphis old city lake. Transportation will be available from the church at 6:30 a.m.

The Lighthouse of Faith will host a sunrise service on the Scotland County courthouse lawn starting at 7:00 a.m.
