Governor Appoints Jo Ann Peters as County Treasurer

Jo Ann Peters was sworn ins as Scotland County Treasurer by Judge Karl DeMarce on April 6. Peters was appointed to the position by Missouri Governor Jay Nixon.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – On April 1, Missouri Governor Jay Nixon appointed Jo Ann M. Peters as the new treasurer for Scotland County to replace LaMayra Brown, who passed away February 21.

Peters, of Memphis, is a certified public accountant who has experience in performing and reviewing audits of governmental entities, including cities, libraries and schools. She also has experience in tax preparation and payroll reports and preparation. Peters received her degree in accounting from Truman State University.

“Government at every level needs good financial leadership,” said Governor Nixon. “As a CPA, Jo Ann Peters has a strong background and the experience needed for the county treasurer position. I am confident she will ably serve the citizens of Scotland County in this position.”

Brown’s sister-in-law, Kathy Campbell, had been appointed by the county commission as the interim county treasurer until the governor’s appointment could be made.

Peters had filed for the office on the Democrat ticket. Kathy Kiddoo will seek the position in the November election on the Republican ballot.

According to county officials, three prospective candidates for the governor’s appointment had filed the necessary paperwork and submitted it through the county clerk’s office for the governor’s consideration.

Peters was officially sworn into office on Tuesday, April 6th by associate circuit Judge Karl DeMarce at the Scotland County Courthouse.

Campbell will now return to her duties as deputy county collector.
