Relay for Life to Hit City Square for 10th Annual Fundraiser

The 10th Annual Scotland County Relay For Life will be held June 11 and 12 from 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. on the Memphis City Square. Organizers have a full evening planned. Survivors will be having a reception at the VFW hall to get the event started. They will also start relay with the survivorís lap. The caregivers lap will follow. Relay teams will be recognized and take a special lap.

Teams this year are: Scotland County Care Center, NO Payne NO Gain, United Methodist Church, Beverly Moore, FCCLA, Jerri Mohr, and a new team/ The Masons. Each team will have food at their campsites, along with a variety of raffles and games for the crowd to enjoy.

The Canine Capers will be on hand to perform with their dogs. This year, organizers will unveil some new entertainment, something for everyone to participate in. The relay will host a Spelling Bee. Participants will donate $1.00 or any amount they wish to challenge their knowledge in spelling. This Spelling Bee is for anyone who would like to participate.

The luminary service will start at 9:00 p.m. Remember, if you would like your luminary to be in alphabetical order, they need to be turned in to Michael Moore by 4:00 p.m. on June 9th. Participants are asked to bring their own lighters, if they wish to light their luminaries themselves. After the luminary service, the Empty Table ceremony will be held followed by the 2010 Relay Teams entertaining the crowd with lip sync performances.

Everyone is welcomed to stay throughout the night to support each team and the Relay. At 6:30 a.m., organizers will announce money raised and have a balloon release. The balloon release is the closing ceremony, but it is also the start of our next yearís event.

Please bring your own lawn chairs and enjoy the memorable night with all of the participants.

Moneys raised through this event are for education, research, and advocacy for the American Cancer Society. If you would like to be involved in next years Relay, please contact any committee member or team member for more information.
