Fireworks Fans to Get Their Fill Over 4th Holiday

Local fireworks fans will have plenty of opportunities to take in pyrotechnic displays this week as a number of shows are scheduled to help celebrate the Fourth of July holiday.

The Scotland County Care Center will kick off the displays with a July 1st fireworks show at the nursing home and Residential Terrace. The fireworks will begin at dusk. The show is open to the public. Viewers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to the RCF parking lot to enjoy the special show commemorating the 40th anniversary of the nursing home. Ice cream will be served.

On Saturday night, July 3rd, the Downing Fire Department will fill the skyline on the western part of the county with its big fireworks display. The booms and blasts will cap off an evening featuring a barbecue dinner hosted by the volunteer firemen. Barbecue pork will be served starting at 5:30 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs to the Downing Depot grounds for the show, which will start at dusk.

The grand finale will occur Sunday, July 4th as the Catfish Place will once again host the community fireworks display on Highway 136 east of Memphis. Area merchants join forces to supply the pyrotechnics for the 16th Annual Catfish Place Fireworks Display.
