Gorin R-III Board Votes to Offer Preschool Services

The Gorin R-III Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 in the school cafeteria. President Tague called the meeting to order with all being present except Ginger Bass.

After approval of the consent agenda items, the board heard from Ms. Roni Berry and Barbara Berry during the public information forum. Ms. Berry and Barbara expressed support to a staff member whose contract was not renewed due to the budget constraints.

With no old business to discuss the board moved on to new business. Mrs. Townsend informed the board of the 21st Century Community Learning Center summer school activities. Following Ms. Kay presented an e-Mints report. Ms Kay shared that she has completed the e-Mints train-the-trainer 2-year training program. She also shared that Mrs. Chrissy Myers and Mrs. Nancy Peterson completed the e-Mints classroom teacher training.

Next, the board discussed contracting speech services through Northeast Outreach Services. The board voted to continue services through Northeast Outreach with a vote of 6 to 0.

The July board meeting date has been changed from Tuesday, July 20th to Monday, July 19th at 6:30.

Miss Kirchner shared with the board her progress on the ABCTE.

The board then discussed the preschool program for the upcoming school year. It was decided that the preschool program will be offered three days a week: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday till 12:50 each of those days. The preschool program will be open to resident four year olds at no charge and to non-resident four year olds for $15 per day plus meals.

The last item on the agenda under new business was the budget. Mrs. Townsend shared with the budget how the 2010 2011 budget had been determined and that there are still many unanswered questions from the state level. She also informed the board that the budget will be closely monitored due to the fact changes in funding are still occurring at the state level. The board voted to approve the budget 6 yes, 0 no.

The board went into executive session at 8:15 to discuss student updates and staff issues.

The board returned to regular session at 9:59 and adjourned immediately following.
