Fire Damages Home Near ‘Four-Corners’

The community fireworks show had ended several hours earlier, so a plume of smoke rising from east of the site just after midnight meant trouble at a rural residence.

The Scotland County and Gorin fire departments were dispatched to the scene of a house fire on Highway 136, approximately ˝ mile east of the Arbela Four Corners on Monday, July 5th.

The Scotland County dispatch was notified of the fire at 12:18 a.m. as a passing motorist noticed the smoke.

Upon arriving at the scene of the 1 ˝ story home, firemen from the Scotland County Department found smoke and flames exiting the structure from a window on the west side of the house.

A hose team entered the structure and located the source of the blaze on the west side of the home. The fire had spread into the upper portion of the house, but the firemen’s efforts prevented it from breaching the roof.

The property sustained extensive fire, smoke and water damage.

The property, owned by Tom and Linda Shannan of Granger, was unoccupied.

The cause of the fire had not been determined as of press time.

Investigators from the Missouri State Fire Marshall’s office were at the scene on Tuesday.
