Second Shoplifting Arrest Made at Dollar General

Stepped up efforts to curb shoplifting at the Dollar General Store in Memphis have resulted in a second arrest at the facility.

A 19-year-old Gorin woman was cited for stealing property valued at less than $500 from the store. The ticket was issued on July 16, stemming from an incident earlier this year.

Memphis Police Chief Bill Holland stated the department has been working with representatives of the store to improve security and crack down on shoplifting. He credits past Marshal John Myers with initiating the project and making the first arrest.

Holland added that officers will continue to work with store officials to crack down on shoplifting.

Stealing of property less than $500 in value is a class A misdemeanor punishable upon conviction by one day to up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

If a person charged with stealing has previously been convicted twice of similar crimes within the past 10 years, the charge automatically becomes stealing 3rd offense and is classified as at least a class D felony.
