Days Before Classes Start SCR-I Athletic Department Takes on New Look
Just weeks before the start of the school year the Scotland County R-I athletic department continued to take on a new look as two members of the staff announced their resignations prior to the August 12 board of education meeting.
Letters of resignation were presented to the board from athletic director Kevin Gundy and baseball and assistant football coach TJ Young.
Young will be returning to his hometown in Iowa to fill a teaching position there while Gundy will be leaving the education field to take a position with the I-High internet sports media service that SCR-I fans got to see firsthand last year.
Superintendent Dave Shalley stated that the district will employ retiree JoBeth Harvey part-time to teach a portion of the health and physical education courses taught by Young and Gundy. Social Studies teacher Marc Colvin will take over the duties of athletic director in addition to his classroom role.
“We will basically absorb a lot of these duties with the current staff,” he said, adding that the cuts could be permanent.
The board also accepted the resignation of Kathy Pence as part-time, high school cook.
