Counterfeit $20 Bills Popping Up in Memphis

The Memphis Police Department is investigating a recent influx of counterfeit $20 bills in town.

Police Chief Bill Holland stated the four such fake bills have been recovered in Memphis after being used at local businesses. He indicated local banks had identi-fied some of the illegal currency, which have been turned over to the United States Secret Service, which handles counterfeiting cases.

The fake $20 bills were discovered over the past three weeks. Holland warned local businesses to pay special attention to currency. Special pens that can help identify counterfeits are available at the local banks.

Investigators are unsure whether the fake money is being produced locally, or simply has traveled through the community.

Anyone with info in the case can contact the police department at 465-2612.
