Memphis FFA Trapshooting Team Claims District Title, Headed to State
The Memphis FFA Trapshooting team received first place at the District Trapshoot on Saturday October 2nd at the Prairie Grove Shotgun Sports range in Columbia MO.
Twenty one teams from the north east district competed for this great honor in grueling winds, low temperatures, and clay pigeons dipping and diving in the blustery weather.
The Memphis FFA Trapshooting team defied the odds and shot an impressive 446/500, leading all teams by 11 clay pigeons. Not only did the team win the shoot, Memphis FFA also earned the bragging rights for high scoring individual. Bryce Smith, son of David and Missy Smith of Arbela, shot a 96/100.
Rounding out the team score were Ben Shannan 84/100, Zach Anderson 86/100, Austin Smith 92/100 and Logan Payne 88/100. Alternate on the squad was Dakota Wells.
Austin Smith received 6th high individual, and all team members were in the top 25 shooters in the competition.
These shooters were supported by their teammates Kala Childress, Andrew Humes, Darick Cline, and Brice Cowell.
When arriving home from the District shoot, trapshooting parents and supporters flooded the Scotland County R-I High School parking lot to welcome the shooters home and commend them for an excellent performance. The team will compete again in April at the State Trapshoot.
“Congratulations FFA Trapshooters and thank you to all who have supported the team this year,” said advisor Cassie Whitlock.
