Tri-County Building Project Behind Schedule, But On Budget

The new facility being constructed for Tri-County Electric Cooperative, Lancaster, MO is on budget but behind schedule according to co-op representatives.

Dirt work on the new complex, located on Highway 63 at the intersection of Highway 136 West at Lancaster, MO, suffered delays due to the above average summer rains, said Tri-County Electric Cooperative General manager David Ramsey.

"Contractors lost 27 days to wet weather during the months of June, July and August," he said. "The drier fall has allowed the contractors on the project to recover some of that time."

Ramsey noted the weather delays have not affected the budget for the project. The board of directors opted to go with the design-build construction method, which locked in the overall cost of the building project. The design-build concept teams the architect and builder together during the design phase taking advantage of the experience and knowledge of each group to do "value-engineering" on the project.

In addition, Tri-County Electric employees were directly involved in the design process through a series of three meetings with the architect and builder. The end result of this process is a building that will serve the members of Tri-County Electric for the foreseeable future, a building that will be cost effective, functional and durable.

As of early November, the structural steel has been erected, the sheet metal is being installed, all of the concrete has been poured and the various crafts are working on the inside of the building. Completion on the project is tentatively scheduled for early spring 2011.
