PAUL R. FRANKLIN

Paul R. Franklin, 93, of Memphis, Missouri passed away Saturday morning, January 2, 2010 at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

The son of George W. and Hettie Baker Franklin he was born January 2, 1917 in Scotland County, Missouri.

Paul attended grade school at Union Grove and Prairie View. He entered the Army/Airforce on February 3, 1942 and served until November 30, 1945.

On December 25, 1942 he married Dorthy Purvis and to this union three children were born.

Paul was a lifetime resident of Scotland County. In his lifetime he worked for Memphis Sale Barn, Whitehead Construction, John Bunch Carpentry, Kerr Grain, Scotland County as a maintainer operator and then as Presiding Commissioner for 10 years, and farmed. His true love of life besides his family was fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Milo, and son-in-law Leroy Morgan.

Surviving, is his wife, Dorthy Franklin of Memphis, MO; three daughters Mary Morgan of Memphis, MO, GeorgAnna (Gary) Madsen of Des Moines, IA, Jerri (Stanley) Mohr of Memphis; six grandchildren, Paula (Chris) Montgomery, Marcia (Randy) Holman, Allan Madsen, David (Scarlett) Mohr, Darla (Joe) Dixon, Diane (Gail) Melvin; twelve great-grandchildren, Morgan, Jessica, Sarah, Will and Hannah Montgomery, Caitlin Holman, Lane, Ty and Dylan Mohr, Hayden and Claudia Dixon and Lydia Melvin; one sister; Helen (Doyle) Garr of Memphis, MO and a host of relatives and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Scotland County Cancer Fund or the donors choice and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, Missouri 63555.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis, MO with Rev. Charles Hammack officiating. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites being provided by the Wallace W. Gillespie V.F.W. Post # 4958 of Memphis, MO. Pallbearers were David Mohr, Allan Madsen, Chris Montgomery, Randy Holman, Joe Dixon and Gail Melvin. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Eddie Harvey, Larry Riney, Keith Chance, Bob Dugger, Ted Gundy, Doyle Garr and Conie Baker.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis.
