HAROLD E. “ROSIE” ROSENTRETER
(11/12/1924 – 12/29/2009)



Harold E. “Rosie” Rosentreter, 85, of Carrolton, IL, passed away December 29, 2009 at 1:51 a.m. at Alton Memorial Hospital.

He was born November 12, 1924 in Carlinville, IL, the son of Paul and Rose Leritz Rosentreter.

Harold grew up on a dairy farm west of Carlinville and graduated from Carlinville High School in 1943. He entered the active military service in the Army in 1945. After serving as a Technical Sergeant in Japan during WWII, he received his honorable discharge in 1946.

He is survived by his children, Dr. Kathie (Dr. John) Wuellner of Alton, IL, Kris (Theresa) Rosentreter of Carlinville, IL, Stephen “Rosie” (Cindy) Rosentreter of Carrolton, IL, Suzanne (Kris) Lister of Memphis, MO, and Mary (Keith) Winkler of Perryville, MO; grandchildren Colleen (Jesse) Stuckey of Bozeman, MT, Shasta Rosentreter of Cedar Rapids, IA, Paul Rosentreter of Carlinville, IL, 2nd Lt. J.C. Wuellner of Bethesda, MD, Karen Rosentreter of Franklin, IL, Joel Rosentreter of Carrolton, IL, Kyle Lister of Memphis, MO, Ann Rosentreter of Carlinville, IL, Kelly Lister of Memphis, MO, Kayla and Jenna Winkler of Perryville, MO; brother-in-law Ed (Barb) Boente; and sisters-in-law Beatrice Waston and Genevieve Godar; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He married the former Evelyn Burger on October 23, 1947 and she preceded him in death on November 7, 1958. He then married Evelyn Boente on May 28, 1960 and she preceded him in death on March 2, 1995.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Clarence, Robert and Leonard and sisters Marie Hoelting, Lucile Stephenson and Agnes Hackle.

Rosie owned and operated Carrolton Beverage Company for 45 years before retiring in February 1991. He served on the Board of Directors at Cornerstone Bank from 1989 until July 2009. He was a lifetime member of the Carrolton Lions Club and Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the American Legion and was a long time and honorary member of the Green County Fair Board. After retiring, he became an avid collector of Pepsi memorabilia and was an active member of the Ozark Mountain Pepsi Collector’s Club.

The funeral mass for Harold Rosentreter was held Thursday, December 31 at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Carrolton, IL.

Memorials may be made to the Harold Rosentreter Memorial Fund or St. John’s Catholic Church in Carrolton, IL.
